My digital life, revolvs around a few tools that I need. To keep on track, also for positive productivity. And them are obvious apps. A note taking app called bear (https://bear.app), for todos, I use things3 ( https://culturedcode.com/things/ ) . For calendar, I used calendly before. But I do not get any value from it that apple calendar doesn’t provide or google calendar doesn’t provide. I also used obsidian for a good number of days.
I have tried many, many apps. Many paid apps. And this is my final selection of apps. And I’ve been using this for a long time. Having said that. These apps do not interact between themselves. They are good for human capture and work. Not AI assisted human capture either.
While I don’t want to shove AI everyplace I go, everything I use. AI tools do have their usecases. For example, I plan to do X, Y and Z in a week. But I don’t actually get to do those, all the time. And it is becoming quite frequent. Though this is mainly for some changes at work.
It would be nice if I could tell claude, “hey Claude, every day, summarise my day, stuff I talked to you about and also try to connect them.” . By connecting them, I’d be able to see them time to time, which way my life is going. Which area am I focusing right now etc. Well, claude could help them. Like gemini notes for personal life. But bear doesn’t support that atm afaik. Not just the MCP part, I think it has some shortcut / x-url-call thingies. But bear also doesn’t have the graph view.
And I can’t say, take 3 action items from today, and put them to the right project. Well, I can ask it to send those data to things3. But then I don’t have a single point of view. If my projext X is collecting too much work, while the notes are saying need to do X and Y, which happend for projectlighthouse.io . Which is a one man project. Having a team won’t help here either. Cause that is just more work, separated etc.
Anyways, thinking ahead. With the rise of LLM tools, some folks are advocating for end of software engineering, which is a big “meh” or “I doubt”, I think there will be a rise of personalised apps, built by individuals.
So, why don’t I build an app for myself ? And if it’s good enough, I can distribute it for people like myself. Hence, I am starting to build kites, it should be a note taking app, personalised to my liking first. That takes notes, has simple todos with deadlines and whatnot, have a journaling space, privacy focused. Supports LLM tools, not by handing over the notes and images in plain text and pngs, but accpets readability and mutation to some degree. Building for iOS / Apple ecosystem . Oh and also with beautiful graphs, yes.
So, lets see what can I build.
